Maia Stern first picked up a video camera at age 7 when her father insisted that she document the shaving of his longstanding beard to make sure that she would recognize him afterwards. As it turns out, he was the same ol' daddy, but she was forever changed by a newfound fascination for filming objects, creatures, and natural happenings around her.

Her documentary work explores the soft power of stories told in subtleties. With an earnest eye for honest moments, her videos illustrate the universal in-betweenness of each feeling as it finds itself. Her knack for relational editing and intuitive visual narration presents a candid and tacit perspective in an uncanny and often chaotic world. She believes in the transformative nature of what stays the same and discerns the extraordinary in the everyday.

Maia is currently a freelance videographer and lives in Brooklyn, NY.
